Role Overview
A new and growing biochar factory is seeking a competent and dependable Accountant to support the day-to-day financial administration and accounting requirements of its operations.
The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing and recording approved payments, managing accounting documentation, supporting payroll administration, handling statutory filings and preparing regular financial reports.
The role can be performed remotely; however, the successful candidate must be available to make frequent trips to Drobonso as required to support the company’s operations.
The position requires someone who is practical, detail-oriented and comfortable working independently while maintaining close communication with management.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
- Carry out day-to-day bookkeeping and accurately record financial transactions.
- Register payments after the necessary management approvals have been obtained.
- Maintain proper supporting documentation for financial transactions.
- Organise and manage receipts, supplier invoices and other accounting documents.
- Ensure accounting records are complete, properly filed and readily available when
required.
Payments and Petty Cash
- Record approved supplier and operational payments accurately.
- Maintain proper records of payments made and supporting documentation.
- Manage petty cash transactions and ensure appropriate documentation for all disbursements.
- Maintain accurate petty cash records and regularly account for amounts issued and spent.
- Escalate discrepancies or incomplete supporting documents to management.
Payroll Administration
- Prepare and process the company’s payroll accurately and within agreed timelines.
- Maintain appropriate payroll records and supporting documentation.
- Ensure payroll information is correctly captured for statutory and management purposes.
- Coordinate with management regarding payroll changes, additions and other authorised adjustments.
Statutory and Regulatory Filings
- Prepare and submit VAT returns within the required filing periods.
- Prepare and submit withholding tax filings.
- Prepare and submit SSNIT returns and related statutory documentation.
- Maintain proper records supporting all statutory submissions.
- Monitor applicable filing deadlines and ensure submissions are made on time.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial reports for management.
- Maintain accurate schedules and supporting records for financial reporting.
- Provide management with relevant financial information required for operational decision-making.
- Respond to finance-related information requests from management in a timely manner.
- Highlight unusual transactions, missing documentation or other financial issues requiring management attention.
Audit Support
- Support the preparation of accounting records and documentation required for internal or external audits.
- Provide auditors with requested schedules, invoices, receipts and supporting records.
- Assist in resolving accounting queries raised during audit exercises.
- Maintain accounting records in a manner that supports efficient audit and financial review processes.
Qualifications and Experience
The preferred candidate should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- At least 3–5 years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
- Practical experience with bookkeeping, payroll administration and financial reporting.
- Good working knowledge of Ghanaian VAT, withholding tax and SSNIT filing requirements.
- Experience preparing statutory returns and working with supporting financial documentation.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience using accounting software or digital bookkeeping systems.
- Professional accounting qualification or part-qualification such as ICAG, ACCA or equivalent would be an advantage.

Work Arrangement
The position can be performed remotely, subject to the operational requirements of the client.
The accountant will, however, be required to travel frequently to Drobonso where physical presence is necessary.
