It is the Ghana Country Office of the West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP) and has operational presence in 7 regions of Ghana through its Regional Chapters. Key program areas are: Conflict Early Warning and Early Response; Women and Youth in Peacebuilding; Community-based peacebuilding; Peace Education; Conflict research; scoping, risk assessment, and training.

Position Summary
The Project Grant and Finance Officer will be responsible for the grant and finance responsibilities relating to the Northern Ghana Governance Activity (NGGA), which is a USAID sponsored Creating Awareness and Relief Everywhere (CARE Int. in Ghana) led Agricultural governance project being implemented in 28 districts in the Northern, Upper East and West Regions of Ghana.
Key Relationships:
  • Internal: National Network Coordinator, Management team and other staff at the National office
  • External: National Boards, WANEP-Regional, CARE Int., Ghana, member organisations and WANEP-Ghana Partners and CSOs
Essential Functions
The employee will perform the following duties:
  • Prepare and submit accurate financial reports to donors on time
  • Work with the Network Coordinator on cash flow forecasts for the project
  • Ensure appropriate taxes are calculated and paid on time
  • Work with Network Coordinator and  appropriate country office staff in the development of forecasts, budgets and budget revisions for project
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports
  • Ensure compliance with policies/procedures and donor rules/regulations.
  • Train and provide ongoing technical assistance to project partners on best financial management practices and systems in order to increase capacity
  • Conduct internal audits on the field
  • Assist external auditors during audits
  • Assist the project team  in the preparation of project budgets;
  • Prepare and submit monthly cash budgets and advance requests to NGGA
  • Keep proper accounting records of all project transactions
  • Ensure good internal control systems are in place to safeguard project assets
  • Prepare payroll and ensure statutory payments are accurately calculated and made on time
  • Ensure all payment and receipt vouchers are properly supported and filed
  • Ensure proper administration of petty cash
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and inform the Network Coordinator of anomalies
  • Maintain an up to date inventory (electronic Inventory register) of project and office assets
  • Conduct asset verifications at least once a year
  • Advise management on disposal of inventory items

Required Skills or Experience

  • A first degree in Business/Public Administration and Certificate in Accounting (A master’s degree will be an advantage)
  • A minimum of 3 years of previous professional experience in a similar position
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in projects/operations & management, preferably in an International NGO sector.
  • Good budgeting and financial management skills
  • Good communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills presentation and reporting skills.
  • Team player, highly-motivated, flexible, able to travel extensively and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Computer skills that must include Microsoft Excel, Quick Books etc.
